Mariana Garrick

Mariana Garrick is a communications and marketing professional with experience spanning journalism, strategic messaging, and crisis communications. Her background includes editorial leadership, reporting, client relations, and outreach across education-, policy-, and community-focused work, with a focus on clear messaging, stakeholder communication, and strategic response.

She earned her undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University, graduating cum laude, where she studied Journalism with a minor in Sociology and was active in student organizations, including the Student Kouncil of Intertribal Nations (S.K.I.N.S.). Her work includes editorial leadership as managing editor and news anchor for The Solano Tempest and OnCampus, along with reporting contributions to Insight Magazine, The Martinez Tribune, and Xpress Magazine, SFSU’s award-winning student publication.

Mariana later earned a Master’s degree in Marketing and Communications from Loyola University New Orleans, with graduate coursework in crisis and strategic communications, and strategic marketing, and graduated with High Distinction. Her graduate training further strengthened her skills in strategic planning, crisis response, stakeholder communication, and message development.

Mariana’s professional interests include exploring social stratification and advancing equity and public understanding through effective communication. A proud Bay Area native, she remains engaged in community work through teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) at an adult education facility and volunteering with local nonprofit organizations. She is currently learning Spanish to enhance cross-cultural communication. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
